RhythmLab
RhythmLab is an experimental rhythm machine exploring the possibilities that contemporary technologies offer music producers to develop personalized musical tools and interfaces. The project engages in toolmaking practices as an alternative mean to engage with the digital society, exploring the possibilities of users creating their own tools, unveiling the tools’ relationship with the artwork, and showcasing the intricate interplay between the piece and physical or virtual realities.
At its core, RhythmLab embodies a three-voice percussion synthesizer with a dynamic sequencer, macro controls for easy sound manipulation, and built-in effects. The project encourages artists and music producers to engage in toolmaking to further explore the possibilities made available by free, open source, technology both within their own artistic practice as well as in the context of bigger communities, driven by the exchange of ideas and tools, developed by users for users.
